Sivananda Yoga Ranch Prison Outreach Program — Bringing the teachings of yoga to prisons
Every year, since 1996, the Sivananda Yoga Ranch Ashram in upstate New York sends many hundreds of books by Swami Vishnudevananda and Swami Sivananda to prisoners across the USA, funded by the generosity of our guests and students. Our volunteers also answer sacksful of letters from prisoners asking for guidance on the practices of yoga and meditation. We also teach yoga and meditation in local State and Federal Correctional Facilities. Yoga helps the prisoners to cope with their lives on manydifferent levels, improving their physical and emotional health.
Most of the funds required for the Prison Outreach Program are provided by selling cookies at the Sivananda Yoga Ranch and at the Sivananda New York Center.
